Quick answers to common questions
Which return tier covers the new tips, overtime, senior or car loan deductions?
It depends on the rest of your return. Not sure which return tier fits? Reach out by email at admin@axiomhorizontax.com and we'll tell you before we start.
Is everything really online? How do I send my documents?
Yes. Everything happens through our secure, encrypted client portal, which accepts PDFs, Word documents and photos. Excel files aren't accepted, so save spreadsheets as a PDF or email them to admin@axiomhorizontax.com.
Do I need a bank account to get my refund?
It's strongly recommended, because the IRS has mostly stopped mailing paper refund checks. Without bank details, your refund may be held until you respond to an IRS letter. IRS source
What if I owe? How do I pay?
You can have the payment pulled from your bank account when we e-file, pay online through IRS Direct Pay or your IRS Online Account, or pay by debit or credit card through an IRS-approved processor (they charge a fee). If you can't pay it all at once, you can ask the IRS for a payment plan. We'll go over your options when your return is ready. IRS source
How do extensions work?
Extensions are free with us, whether or not we prepare your return. They give you until October 15 to file, but not more time to pay: tax owed is still due by the April deadline. IRS source
I didn't get a 1099. Do I still report the income?
Yes. Starting with 2026 payments, most 1099-NECs are only sent for $2,000 or more, but the income is still taxable. Share your own records of what you were paid. IRS source
What happened to IRS Direct File?
The IRS's free Direct File pilot was suspended and wasn't offered in the 2026 filing season. No return date has been announced. U.S. Treasury source
What is a Trump Account, and how do I get the $1,000?
It's a new savings account for children. U.S.-citizen children born from 2025 through 2028 with a Social Security number may get a one-time $1,000 government deposit, which you request on Form 4547 through the Trump Accounts app or website or your IRS Online Account. IRS source
Do you prepare state returns?
Yes, for most states. We can't currently prepare California, Maryland, Oregon or New York state returns, but may still prepare your federal return, so please email us before enrolling.
